you can send pm's (private messages)back and forth here.That's what the inbox is for.
I generally check my inbox before doing anything else. You can send a pm either through a person's profile or from the pm icon that is in the user info in the posts.Look to the info on the user in the left box-under username,avatar etc.
There's an icon for pm,email and website (if the member has one).
